If your school is a Title 1 and is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the USS Hornet Museum and the Marathon Oil Company can provide full program scholarships for your class to participate in one of our Distance Learning Programs.
The scholarship serves Bay Area students and will focus on the goal of providing the opportunity for up to 80 Classrooms a year to become enriched in STEM and history through USS Hornet Museum distance learning education programs. This would be on conducted on a first-come first-serve basis.
Please email edu@uss-hornet.org for info.
We are grateful to announce that the Marathon Petroleum Foundation has approved a grant in the amount of $10,000.00 to support our Education Department’s Expansion for Virtual Education Field Trip Development.
Anyone! Our programming is more suited for Grade K-12 classrooms, Youth Groups, Homeschools, library patrons, and lifelong learning audiences (senior centers, clubs, etc.)! We do recommend age groups as appropriate to the content of each program.
Most programs are approximately 40-60 Minutes, though if you have more time, we can do longer presentations as well.
Our evening Jets & Jammies program is 2 hours of scheduled content, with suggestions of how to build it into a full overnight adventure from home!
The daytime programs are $125 per video conference unless otherwise noted. Scholarships are available. For more information on those, please contact edu@uss-hornet.org.
The evening Jets & Jammies program is $50 per household/login with group rates available for groups if you contact edu@uss-hornet.org.
The daytime programs are designed to be experienced by one class of students at a time, so each student has more opportunity to participate though larger groups can be accommodated with advance notice. 50 Person Max Class room size is recommended.
Our overnight program can accommodate up to 100 individual logins, so there is room for all unless the evening is marked as sold out.
Complete the online request form by clicking here. The Hornet Education Department will contact you to confirm your date and time. Note: Your program is not booked until the USS Hornet confirms with you via email.

The Museum is mostly self-guided. A Museum Map is available at the Admissions Desk with some basic ship information as well as various locations you can visit!
Talk to the many volunteers throughout the Museum! Our docents have a wealth of information and will be available for conversation and to lead you on tours (Tour tickets are available at Admissions) to various parts of the ship!
Children under 16 years of age must be with an adult at all times as our ship is large with many compartments and passages.
Our ladders are steep going between decks so for your safety we ask you not to bring aboard bags that exceed 12 x 8 x 12 inches. We recommend that all oversize bags remain in your vehicle, though lockers are available for rent at the Admissions Desk.
Cameras are welcome but must have neck or wrist strap. Personal photography is allowed throughout the ship though the Museum does not allow professional equipment without advanced reservations through our Event Inquiry Form.
Wear comfortable, closed-toed walking shoes as most all of our decks are made of steel and there is a lot of ship to see! Consider layers as some parts of the ship can be cold regardless of weather.
Flashlights are required for some of our specialty tours, including our History Mystery tours, so make sure to bring a good one with fresh batteries!
