Night of Novelty

March 25, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

An interesting night of learning is in store for you onboard Hornet Friday March 25 from 6p until 9p. Not only will we be previewing a new and unique exhibit about innovation and technology but you can be in the audience for the premiere of Heroes on Deck: WWII on Lake Michigan.

The documentary covers a little known US naval force that steamed around Lake Michigan providing new carrier pilots-to-be with a small deck to practice their landings and take-offs. Not all of the novice pilots were succesful and we have physical proof of that right here on Hornet.

In our aircraft restoration area you can see a WWII Wildcat fighter plane going through an extensive renovation. Our Wildcat was pulled from the depths of Lake Michigan several years ago and given to the Museum for restoration. While there has been a lot of work accomplished to the plane there is still years of work left to perform by our all-volunteer aircraft restoration crew.

Throughout the evening you will also learn about the Museum’s new and revamped membership program and preview our newest exhibit, Whatchamacallit: Innovation & Technology on the Hornet. Meet our Executive Director, Jill Rapposelli and the filmmakers of the Heroes On Deck documentary.  A cash bar and food will be available. Please register for free admission HERE.
