The USS Hornet – Sea, Air and Space Museum will be hosting an event for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month on May 1st from 10 am to 5 pm.

Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have a rich heritage thousands of years old and have both shaped the history of the United States and had their lives dramatically influenced by moments in its history  

We will have three special exhibits in the Hangar Bay for our guests to enjoy: The Friends and Family of Nisei Veterans, the Bataan Legacy Project and the Chinese American G.I. Project. Representatives from each group will be on hand to discuss their exhibits.

These exhibits will honor Japanese American, Filipino American and Chinese-American efforts during World War II.  As a result of their efforts, Congress has awarded the Congressional Gold Medal to all Japanese American, Filipino American and Chinese-Americans who served during World War II.

One display by the Chinese American GI Project will be a tribute to the 20,000 WWII Chinese Americans who served. You will also experience how Chinese Americans have a legacy of service to our country from the Civil War to current day.
