Vintage Wings Summer Restoration Camp Intern Program
Saturdays, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM
July 11–August 15
Open to students in grades 10–12 from the Mount Diablo School District.
As Vintage Wings Restoration Camp interns, students will perform basic collections care, including aircraft maintenance and corrosion control, restoration techniques, and painting/finishing.
The main project will be rebuilding the bomb bay doors for the Museum’s TBM Avenger aircraft. Under supervision, interns will learn how to fabricate aluminum aircraft components, developing the following skills:
• Project and time management
• Research and group problem-solving
• Basic woodworking skills for form and tooling fabrication
• Basic welding and grinding
• Metalworking for component fabrication
• Metal parts assembly and riveting
• Surface preparation and painting
• Hand tool usage, management, and techniques
• Power tool usage, safety, and techniques
• Aircraft restoration processes and techniques
Schedule and Application
Saturdays, July 11–August 15, 2026
The program meets once a week on Saturdays from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM, including a lunch break. A lunch stipend will be provided through the Museum’s on-site weekend food vendor.
Requirements
• Must be at least 16 years old with a parent or guardian waiver
• Must be enrolled at Ygnacio Valley High School or Mt. Diablo High School
Vintage Wings Restoration Field Trip 2026–2027 Register HERE

Free for classes from the Mount Diablo School District.
The Vintage Wings Restoration Field Trip will be available during the 2026–2027 school year and will serve approximately 300 students.
Day field trips are available to classes from Ygnacio Valley High School or Mt. Diablo High School.
Participants will observe aircraft restoration techniques and receive a guided tour of the USS Hornet.
