80th Anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa Wardroom Speaker Series

Please join us in the Wardroom for our latest Speaker Series observing the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa with the presentation: The IJN Yamato and the Hornet’s Role in Her Demise.

The IJN Yamato and her Sister Ship Musashi were the largest Battleships ever completed. During the invasion of Okinawa, the Yamato embarked on a one-way mission to attack the US Navy landing forces and was intercepted by aircraft from multiple carriers including the USS Hornet. This presentation will talk briefly about the design and use of the Yamato, and then the tell the story of Operation Ten-Go which took place on April 7, 1945.

Speaker Bio: Jon Boucher has been a volunteer Docent on the USS Hornet for the past 2 years. After a 30-year career as a Firefighter, he is using his lifelong interest in ships, aircraft, and history to tell the story of the Hornet and the servicemen who served on her. He is a member of the Docent Council and was awarded Docent of the Year in 2024.
