SUMMARY:Apollo 11 Splashdown 2026
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the USS Hornet as we celebrate the anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon mission-specifically the successful splashdown and recovery of the Apollo 11 astronauts by the USS Hornet. We are extra excited this year due to the recent Artemis II Mission that flew around the Moon and then was recovered in the Pacific Ocean off of San Diego. There will be a lot of extra exhibits and other things to do all day long! \nFeaturing a presentation about the interior of the Apollo 11 Command Module. A detailed 3D laser scan was done of the inside. This project allowed an unprecedented look inside the Command Module after it was sealed up for decades. After the presentation you will be able to experience the inside of the Command Module via Virtual Reality Goggles. For some background on this amazing project please watch this video: Apollo 11 Command Module | 3D Documentation \nOur own space expert Bill Miklos\, will be giving a presentation about the splashdown and recovery of the Apollo 11 astronauts. \nWe have completely rebuilt our Apollo exhibit and that will be on full display. \nIn addition\, we will have a NASA Solar System Ambassador who will be able to talk about all things NASA-including the exciting new Artemis Program which will bring astronauts back to the Moon! \nSeveral other temporary exhibits will include a Model Rocket Display\, a Travelling Space Exhibit\, ASTRA and more! \nSpecial Guests will include local Star Wars Costume Clubs and The Royal Manticoran Navy Costume Club.
