Korean War Anniversary

Korean War Anniversary

Please join us on the USS Hornet as we observe the anniversary of the end of the Korean War. The main event will start at 11 AM in the Officer’s Wardroom on the 2nd Deck.

On July 27th, 1953, a cease-fire was signed that essentially ended the war in Korea. A formal war declaration was never made and a formal peace was never signed so technically the situation is still unresolved. However, South Korea and North Korea have generally followed the rules of the cease fire and have kept to their own sides of the DMZ (de-militarized zone).

Steve Leavell will give a talk about The Korean War (sometimes referred to as the Forgotten War) and then Malcolm Robertson will honor our very own Korean War Veteran, Dale Berven, Navy Fighter Pilot.

We have a new temporary exhibit about the Korean War (The Stories They Keep) and we will encourage everyone to visit the exhibit after the talk.

On your way onto the ship, don’t forget to drop by and see the MASH Jeep right next to the entrance!

Please join us to learn more about this important part of US History and to help us say goodbye to Dale Berven, longtime docent who is retiring.
