Imagine spending a night aboard the historic ship that recovered the Apollo 11 and 12 missions, where the first men on the moon stepped onto American soil. As the sun dips below the horizon, casting long shadows across the deck, you’ll find yourself immersed in a world of space exploration and adventure.
Your program includes a guided tour of the ship, where you’ll learn about its vital role in the Apollo program. Explore the command center, imagine the excitement and tension as the astronauts returned to Earth, and see the very spot where they were greeted by President Richard Nixon. See a Command Module that orbited Earth for 92 minutes.
During the evening of tours, you will tour key areas of the ship to see various spaces and systems and discuss the history, science, and engineering behind them. As you move around the ship, you can participate in multiple hands-on science stations and demonstrations interspersed with seeing sailors’ living spaces! The experience includes:
- Sleeping in restored, original sailor sleeping compartments
